Friends of the Children-Boston offers a unique opportunity for those pursuing degrees in clinical and educational fields to participate in a growing movement of connecting the mentoring field with social work and education at the grassroots level. We see our Mentors as agents of change within a grassroots non-profit organization, and are at the core of the work we do with the Achievers and families we serve.

Who are the Mentors?

      Mentors are students pursuing degrees in a social work program (BSW and MSW) or other fields that serve communities and youth experiencing risk factors, such as Ed.M in Prevention Science and Practice.

What kind of supervision do Mentors receive?

      All Mentors receive the guidance and support of a clincial supervisor/Program Manager (LICSW). Mentors also attend weekly individual and group supervision with an LICSW

Are there ongoing training opportunities?

      There is an initial 4 day orientation at the start of the program. Addtionally, there are monthly trainings offered for all Mentors

How many Achievers are matched to a Mentor?

      Each Mentor is matched with one to two (1-2) Achievers

How many hours a week do Mentors serve?

    • at least 16 hours/week (2 full days), depending on your placement requirements
